WELCOME!

Our beginnings date back to March 18, 1888 when the area was incorporated as the Town of Waveland.  As the town grew, Waveland became a city in 1972, and operates under a Mayor-Aldermen form of government, which provides for an elected Mayor and a four-member Board of Aldermen.

Rhonda Aime-Gamble born and reared in Bay St. Louis, is the daughter of E. V. "Gus" Aime and the late Janet Breland Aime.  Rhonda is a graduate of Our Lady Academy.  She received her AA degree from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College at Jeff Davis and then attended University of Southern Mississippi at Gulf Park.  Her paralegal career spanned nearly thirty years.  She was the first Hancock County Justice Court Clerk, and received years of continuing legal education hours from Ole Miss Judicial College.  She is married to retired Army Reserve Major, Jay V. Gamble.  As the mother of three, step-mother of three and the grandmother of 16, Rhonda understands what is needed for family and the expectation for a better tomorrow.  She has lived in Ward 1 totaling over 35 years.

Rhonda has been pro-active in community service her entire life.  She was reared in a family committed to faith, family, charity and community.  Rhonda's service influenced her growth in Bay St. Louis and Waveland and has permeated her life.  Through the years, she has developed a great set of organizational skills and a unique ability to make the seemingly impossible, possible.  As a paralegal, Rhonda developed an astute attention to detail and an ability to move tasks forward expeditiously, along with an innate ability to identify and prevent potential issues.

To say that Rhonda is passionate about her community is an understatement.  She has the reputation for being the first to assist with a public need.  An example of this occurred at the onset of the COVID pandemic.  Rhonda decided to open a small sewing factory of sorts, at a time when medical personnel, hospitals, clinics, nor the public were able to obtain masks, which were mandated.  She secured the building, machines, and all materials needed to help make and provide, free of charge, over 10,000 masks to local businesses, medical facilities, etc.

Rhonda was a 2020 Outstanding Citizen nominee with the Hancock County Chamber of Commerce.  She is an officer with the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary #1522, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 119, a member of Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church, where she is active in numerous ministries, the Chair of the St. Germain Project (through the Hancock County Treatment Court), a member and child advocate of CASA for over 12 years, and a member of the Hancock County Republican Women.  Rhonda is also a founding member and director or a local non-profit, which focuses on the needy and those at risk.

Rhonda was first elected as Ward 1 Alderman in December 2022 and was sworn into office on January 3, 2023.

Meet Your Elected Officials

The Mayor and Board of Aldermen are elected every four years.  The Mayor is the only city-wide elected position.  Aldermen are elected by residents within a geographical area of the city known as a Ward.
